The serpent, an animal both venerated and feared since antiquity, with its rich and complex ambivalent symbolism, has been embodied in countless legends and myths: as an image of pure, unadulterated energy and strength, an allegory of wisdom that dwells underground and emerges into the light, a threatening emblem and unmistakable sign of evil, an effigy of the deity, a symbol of renewed life and resurrection, the supreme evocation of temptation and sin, or as the personification of feminine power.

Vanesa Aibar freely incorporates this tradition, establishing a formal and symbolic analogy between the serpent and the archetype of the flamenco dancer that emerged from Romanticism, presenting her as an extreme, powerful, regal female; an undulating, sinful, beautiful, harmonious animal; possessing an atavistic force that simultaneously reveals her as lover, companion, wife, or mother.
