Cierro

Cierro is a collaborative video dance project featuring dance and audiovisual recording by Vanesa Aibar, original music by José Torres, and video art by Ana Solinís.

A cierro is a lookout point that juts out at us, separating us like a knife. A closed balcony from which to practice shared solitude. A space that allows us, in turbulent times like these, to listen silently to the birds and find solace in the search for the other in our own reflection.

Cierro is a video dance directed by Ana Solinís with choreography by Vanesa Aibar and music by José Torres Vicente. It was created between Seville and Cádiz during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, based on musical, physical, and audiovisual approaches to social distancing and enforced confinement. The artists’ artistic exchange from their respective lockdowns consists of recordings of blind musical creations and remote choreographic improvisations based on a handful of shared words and concerns. The result is an exercise in renouncing individualism, belonging to the common good, and recognizing the collectives within oneself.
