“Woman in Blue” is a work in progress, taking shape through the exploration of diverse materials to identify the common traits that define heroic temperament, the use of power, the emergence of inner turmoil and the power of fury, the need for survival, the tools of seduction, the yoke of desire, and free will.

“The dynamic between Monfort and Aibar resonates with the audience; they look at each other a lot and encourage the crowd with their eyes. Although in the Netherlands we aren’t used to shouting ‘olé,’ and that’s not happening now, the feeling is almost tangible, and Aibar must be able to feel how he’s captivating the audience. He plays on all three levels, sometimes coming down from the stage and walking among the rows, dancing, murmuring, shouting, because his mouth has also become a resonating chamber.”

“The tone of the performance shifts slowly and gradually from subtle and sublime to more exuberant and expressive, alternating between dramatic and joyful moments, finally culminating in a deafening spectacle. Frankly hilarious and also virtuosic is the pas de deux in which Aibar lies on his back with his legs raised, while Monfort plays a drum solo on the soles and heels of his shoes. Equally beautiful is his metamorphosis, in which he dons a kind of poncho of gigantic proportions and then whirls around the dance floor in it almost like a dervish. It’s a performance full of images and sounds that won’t let you go once the stage lights go down and the well-deserved ovation ends.”
