La Reina del Metal

Vanesa Aibar and Enric Monfort have made exploring the boundaries of their respective artistic languages the core of their work, pushing the limits of sound and movement to their extremes to find, in that beyond, a true connection with their deepest selves and with the audience.

In this long-gestating project, they champion the convergence of their two creative universes, which, like any true encounter, transcends what each brought to the table to establish a new space. And that new space is La Reina del Metal (The Queen of Metal). To create it, consistent with their respective trajectories, they have chosen to draw inspiration from rites of passage, not so much to replicate one on stage as to delve into the liminal nature of the stage, its capacity to transform those who inhabit it.

Thus, La Reina del Metal presents itself as an invented liturgy in which sound and movement unfold in space until all three merge into one. Leveraging cutting-edge 4D Sound spatialization technology, the performance immerses performers and audience in a shared space, seeking to create a place where life can unfold—that is, a real and tangible transformation for everyone involved. Aibar and Monfort draw upon the fusion of diverse artistic languages to explore the physical and mental limits that shape artistic creation and reception. The Queen of Metal is not a reaction to life itself, but rather a reaction to what thought has made of it; it is a recognition and celebration of the miracle of our simultaneous existence.

“El tono de la actuación cambia lenta y gradualmente de tenue y sublime a más exuberante y expresivo, alternando momentos dramáticos y alegres, para finalmente terminar en un espectáculo ensordecedor. Francamente hilarante y también virtuoso es el ‘pas-de-deux’ en el que Aibar se tumba boca arriba con las piernas en alto, mientras Monfort interpreta un solo de batería sobre las suelas y los tacones de sus zapatos. También es hermosa su metamorfosis, en la que se pone una especie de poncho de dimensiones gigantescas y luego gira con él por la pista de baile casi como un derviche. Es una actuación llena de imágenes y sonidos que no te dejarán ir una vez que se apaguen las luces del escenario y finalice la merecida ovación”
